Housing Difference and Diversity - assignments 1 & 2 2015 Spring

Subject: Housing Difference and Diversity   Assignment One: A research project and ‘show and tell’ on Housing Register Exclusions   Local authorities and registered housing providers routinely block access to social housing for people who are in housing need. People can be excluded from social housing registers because of some ‘offense’ or because they have failed to meet criteria adopted by the housing provider.   Under the Localism Act 2011 local authorities were given the power to determine what classes of persons are or are not qualified to be allocated housing. Although certain categories of people must be given reasonable preference for housing, other groups may be excluded altogether. Registered providers are also able to exclude or temporarily suspend applicants. The most common reasons for exclusion are on the grounds of previous rent arrears or anti-social behaviour. Research published in 2001 showed that 16 per cent of ‘active’ applicants were temporarily exclude

Some SMA assignment issues - a case study, 2014

My comment on student’s SMA assignment (doc 1) Hello Student A Content reads like lecture notes; mainly explanatory and not clearly address assignment themes. Not OK. Try to address tasks as specified in assignment and also refer to my assignment report template for info. Assignment is not about writing explanation notes per se. It is not clear why you omit my advice: http://josephkkhoworkdiary.blogspot.hk/2014/09/assignment-report-structure-sma-2014.html Joseph Email from student (doc 2) From student A I have read your website but I asked you "Could I change your title?" in the your lecture. You said I can. And I also asked you, "The assignment topic can be surrounded to write the EVA", you also said OK. Therefore, I written that. Could you let me know the assignment I need write it again or not? Student A My reply: (doc 3) Dear Student A Let me be specific: "Could I change your title?" in the your lecture. Y

Pluralism and creative holism as personal preference

While I am fully supportive of the protesters' ultimate goals in general, I have disagreement with their tactics; I also notice that there are people who see things only from one perspective: e.g. fully support the police (and never suggest the police may have done something wrong sometimes..) and anything against the law must be wrong (based on what they say; they never say things from another perspective). There are people who are multi-perspective and there are people who choose to see and complain things only from one perspective.  I much prefer and recommend the multi-perspective stance in problem-solving and investigation personally, and there is a also strong theoretical basis for pluralism and creative holism.

My mother is not recognized in dissertation assessments

Recently, I have had difficulties to supervise 1 or 2 final year dissertation project students; one of them complained that he is busy and he is not supposed to do dissertation as a scholar, etc. I smell some cheating acts involved... Anyway, students are customers; and I am not paid to force students to learn. I give advices in dissertation meetings. Students can then decide what they are going to do next. At the end of the day, I do the first marking... and I need to make it clear: I do not even recognize (or give face to) my mother when I do the marking of dissertation reports . I will not consider factors such as you are busy or you are just a part-time student, etc... If students are not committed to doing dissertation projects, they should not ask me or let me supervise them..
