Three types of research tasks in ALRA

Three types of research tasks in the Agile Literature Review Approach (ALRA):

Three types of research tasks/ questions
Characteristics
1. High-level research tasks
Specific to a level-0 theoretical framework
An agenda to do literature review with a specific management theme, e.g. innovation capability, managerial-leadership competence, strategic change capability, etc.

An example: To evaluate the innovation capability of ABC Ltd.
2. Low-level research tasks
Specific to a high-level research task-cum-specific academic idea at level-1b theoretical framework.
Indicative/ suggestive of what research method(s), e.g. interview research, questionnaire survey, to use.
Indicative of intention to conduct theory-driven data gathering and analysis with a specific academic idea, e.g. 7-dimensional model of innovation capability, Maslow’s motivation theory, etc.

An example: To learn middle-managers’ perception [via semi-structured interview] of the innovation capability of ABC Ltd with the 7-dimension model of innovation capability.
3. Specific research method questions
Specific questions included in a specific research method raised, primarily for a respondent to reply, e.g. in an interview, a questionnaire instrument.
They first appear in Dissertation report chapter 3: Research Methods.

E.g. To what extent do you agree that the leadership style of ABC Ltd is good at fostering employee’s innovative mindset? 0=disagree; 5= strongly agree.
[On the condition that this question is explicitly based on a specific low-level research task.]
