Why students need to read texbooks - that's the question.

The question comes up in my lectures more frequently these days. Students are informed to buy a course textbook. After a while, I ask the class again; still no one buys the subject textbook.

Students are only prepared to read my powerpoint handouts and listen to my recorded lectures afterward. Many of these students are poor in English and are not willing to learn theories from the academic sources. They are not willing to buy nor to read textbooks..

When asked, they would tell you that they just want to pass the subjects and get a recognized university degree.. they want to finish the degree programme and then resume their normal lives afterward..

The question is: why are students required to read textbooks? My answer is: you have the answer with you already...

This article makes use of the mind mapping-based literature review (MMBLR) approach to render an image on the knowledge structure of gender.
