About assignment 1: Housing Imaginations, 2015
The first assessment is a presentation

*You should select an ‘artifact’ which serves as an example of one or several of these key themes.
*The term ‘geographical imagination’ encompasses a variety of meanings, including individual mental images and socially produced discourses about cultures, spaces, and differences. 
*We can apply housing imaginaries to housing in order to thing about the various ‘housing imaginaries’ that exist and the different representations of place and the “other” in relations to housing. 
*We might think about the ways in which social housing in represented in the media, books, art, film….
*How is it discussed by politicians and policy makers?
*What are it’s “socially produced discourses”
*You can chose anything relating to ‘housing imaginaries’ or the place and space of housing.
*Your artifact could be a piece of music, a book, a paining, a newspaper article or anything else.
*Your focus does not need to be social housing, it could be homelessness, home ownership, home improvement or something else

Assessment criteria for Assignment 1
The assignment will be marked using the broad criteria and marks as indicated below:

35%
Understanding of the key issues
Clear understanding of the issues around housing imaginations.
40%
Presentation - clear coherent and logically compiled with due consideration of the overall focus; colourful, interesting, creative.
25%
Writing - lucid, concise and accurately written. Grammar, spelling and punctuation good.




Assignment 2
Assignment 2 is an essay of 2500-3000 words and is worth 50% of overall marks of the module.
Choose from one of the following questions:

·       Critically discuss the assertion by Doreen Massey (1992)  that  homes, like all ‘places’, are open to, and created by, the social relations which extend beyond them.

·       To what extent does the concept of ‘place’ provide a useful; basis for understanding the dynamics and conflicts surrounding home-places?


·       In what ways is the housing imagination gendered and classed?

Assessment criteria for Assignment 2
The assignment will be marked using the broad criteria and marks as indicated below:

Structure and reference material
Clear, coherent and logically structured, with due consideration to the overall focus and supported by reference materials from a good range of sources.

Clarity of argument and understanding of key issues and debates.
Argument clear and critically reflective; Ideas developed on the basis of reading a suitable range of literature, ability to synthesise and analyse ideas, demonstrate understanding of key issues, integrate key themes in a systematic way, relevant conclusions.
60%
Written presentation
Lucid, concise and accurately written. Grammar, spelling and punctuation good. Bibliography and citations consistent and accurate.
