An assessment of project complexity of Information Technology projects in the hospitality sector in Macao using case study research method
Synopsis
(250 – 300 words)
The hospitality sector in Macao makes up a major business sector in the Macao economy. In the process of building up quality hospitality operational performance, Information Technology (IT) applications have been introduced. In view of the unique culture exposed to challenges as well as opportunities in IT project works they involve, learning more about these unique IT project challenges and opportunities have good practical and academic value.

This student will evaluate 4 case studies on IT project management in the hospitality sector in Macao that he is involved in as IT project managers using the notion of system complexity in the systems thinking literature. The aims are to learn more about the nature of project risk and challenges involved in this specific setting and, subsequently, to formulate IT project management guidelines specific to this business sector in Macau. Via the 4 case studies, the student also intends to assess the analytical value of system complexity in IT project management study, thus making academic contribution to the field of Systems Thinking in Management.

With regard to research methods consideration, case study will be used as a research method. The research philosophy of this dissertation project is primarily grounded on an interpretive/ soft systems stance.
