Some advice from the university on dissertation projects (MBA, Sunderland)

The following advice is noted from the university staff at a recent meeting:

1. Referencing of a reference 1-2 times in the dissertation report.
2. Literature review needs to be linked to research methods and data analysis/ discussion.
3. Avoid using primary data in the form of photos and videos (due to ethical consideration).
4. Dissertation objectives should be justified in terms of employability gained by the student
5. Make recommendations at three levels: strategic, tactical and operational levels.
6, Need primary data gathering in research methods design.
7. Often the research is focused on studying a company.
8. Interview + questionnaire + focus group is a good research design. Observation is an acceptable research method (but photos and videos should be avoided).
9. For literature review, studying academic journal articles is very important. Much more important than textbooks.
10. Try to use references published over the last 5 years in literature review.
