OAISM assessment methods- 2015 May
OPERATIONS
AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT MODULE LEVEL 1 2014-15
ONLINE
TEST GUIDANCE/INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETION
General
The tests will comprise 50% of your final module mark for Operations and
Information Systems Management. The
tests will commence after session 3 of the module delivery (May 19th 2015).
There will be 6 tests in total which contain multiple
choice questions. Each test will be
accessed through a link on Blackboard. They
will last 20 minutes and the final score awarded will equate to 50% of the
overall module grade. You will have 15
questions to answer per test. This means that the tests will compose of 90
questions which will be extrapolated into a 100% grade and then a final
weighting of 50% will be applied.
The test will be based on a previous topic so all students
will have time to review their material (from the lecture and textbook) prior
to taking the test. You will be advised
via a schedule which tests you need to take at which point (as shown below).
Please note
that the online test 2 will be happened from 24 May to 31 May 15.

A url will be posted on Blackboard
in a file entitled ‘OISM Tests’ which will direct you to the test.
Test
structure
The test is
straightforward and simple to complete. You
will only have one attempt at an answer as you cannot backtrack and re-answer a
question. A grade will be given per
session based on a potential score out of the maximum points.
Scores achieved from
the test will be available for viewing in Blackboard Gradebook. A document will be placed in the OISM Test
file guiding you to Gradebook. Students
will be advised of their final score AFTER all the tests are completed.
PRACTICE
TEST
A
quiz will be made available as practice for the following tests. Students have to complete this to demonstrate
their ability to use the software. Any
failures to complete this test will automatically lead to the student being
contacted. Students will be notified via
Blackboard when this is available and when they should take it. Students should also take this prior to
all tests to ensure that their internet connection is a viable one.
Failure to complete a test
If you have not
completed the test during the allocated time following the appropriate lecture
then it will no longer be available and you will not be allowed to take it,
unless you have a doctor's note or good cause (supported by evidence) for the
entire 4 days.
All queries regarding failure to complete should be addressed to Dr
Zahid Hussain who will determine validity and potential to retake.
Should
students choose to take tests outside of the university e.g on home computers, they are reminded that any
technical failures when doing so cannot be checked and therefore retakes will
not be allowed.
All students are advised to complete the Practice
Test before they start the weekly test to check their system connection. If students do not do this then they have no
comeback if there is a failure.
If a
failure should occur during a test e.g. system
crashes, students should provide evidence of their attempt to that point by
capturing the screen data and e-mail to myself.
The email you send me must be dated before the end of the test period
or it will not be considered.
RETAKING TESTS
If students
accidentally close the online test without submitting they will not be allowed
to retake. A video of common mistakes
will be made available for review prior to using the technology.
All
retakes (which will only be allowed in case of illness or other valid
mitigating circumstances) will be done manually at the end of term. Any students retaking the test will be asked
to attend at a given time and take the test under supervision. As the questions on the test are randomised,
a new set will be provided for retakes.
Any
applicable cases for non-completion that are supported with evidence and demand
further consideration will then be redirected to the chair of mitigating
circumstances. Students are not involved
in this process once the data is presented to me.
SUMMARY
Students are advised to
remember the following:
By undertaking each test you are stating
that:
1. You
know how to use this technology
2. You
have checked that your internet connectivity is working
3. Your
equipment is in working order to do so.
The above 3 elements should be checked by
completing the PRACTICE TEST prior to the formal OISM tests 1-6.
If you choose to take this
test offsite on a non-university computer or mobile device you do so at your
own risk
