How to produce a synopsis report in applied business research project

How to produce a synopsis report in applied business research project:

The synopsis report has the following structure:

PROJECT TITLE (This does not need to be the definitive title but you must indicate clearly the area you intend to research so an
 appropriate supervisor can be allocated).

PROJECT SYNOPSIS (Please provide a 250 word outline of your Management Project to help Subject Group Heads allocate an
 appropriate supervisor)

The project title could be something likes this:

An investigation on the XX and YY capabilities of ABC Ltd: a case study.

*** XX and YY capabilities are the high-level research tasks of theoretical framework level-0 [within the core-focus-domain]

The project synopsis box itself covers the following basic elements very very briefly:

  1. Company and project backgrounds (very brief information is appropriate here)
  2. About 3 main management concerns facing a company, e.g. "concern about the weak strategic management ability of ABC Ltd" and "worried about the increasing intensity of competition in the market place facing ABC Ltd".
  3. The main research objectives (primarily the two high-level research tasks in theoretical framework level-0 [in the core-focus domain]), and a few academic ideas [for literature review purpose] related to each of the two objectives. Examples of the research objectives are: i. "to evaluate the innovation capability of ABC Ltd.", and ii. "to evaluate the human resource management capability of ABC Ltd". The description of academic ideas could be something likes this: (i) This student intends to use Porter's 5-Force model (198?) to "evaluate the intensity of competition facing ABC Ltd"; (ii) this student considers the managerial grid of Blake and Mouton (19??) highly useful to "evaluate the managerial competence of ABC Ltd.
  4. The main research methods associated to the two main research objectives; need to mention two primary research methods, i.e. interview and questionnaire survey.
  5. A very brief reference list (about 4-5 references are OK at this synopsis stage).

** Since the synopsis form is an administrative form for allocating project supervisor, the content is expected to be very brief and preliminary. There is no need to attach the preliminary management-concerns diagram nor the theoretical framework in the synopsis form.

** The conceptual ideas about doing applied business research are documented in a list of publication on the agile literature review approach.

** Same as the dissertation proposal, the synopsis form does not cover topics on "findings and analysis", "conclusions and recommendations" and "personal development".

** For a synopsis form report, the content is likely to be brief, preliminary and somewhat incomplete.

** Reference list format is Harvard referencing style.

** The underlying dissertation report content elements are listed in the dissertation report content template; the template is useful reading to understand how to write dissertation synopsis report, proposal report and the final dissertation report.
