Some problematic views on Business Education

The following are my comments on some views about Business Education which are problematic in my view:

  1. It is trendy to study for a Doctor of Business Admin (DBA) these days:
    • This may be the case but, I do not see many people interested in Research nor in being researchers, scholars, intellectuals, etc.
  2. Should I borrow money from the Government to study for a DBA at HK$300,000?
    • It is probably not right to do so, unless it is your life goal to be a DBA. If you are interested in Research, you could do so without a DBA.
  3. I think the ranking of a University is important for selecting its programme to study..
    • Ranking info is probably not a useful one for selection of university programme to study. Try to seek for words of mouth info.; Check whether the university provides a e-library with access to about 5 major academic journal publishers; the quality of its alumni association could be an important criterion to consider.
  4. The academic standing of a Master Degree programme must be better than that of an Advanced Diploma
    • I have some students who failed in the open exam of Advanced Diplomas of the Association of Business Executives, and now study for an MBA. That reminds me of the joke: "If you are rich, you be Batman, if not, you can be a policeman."..
